The Commerce and Transport Department, in collaboration with the School and Mass Education Department and the State Transport Authority of Odisha, successfully organised a capacity-building training program today for educational administrators and principals of government schools.

The primary focus of the program was to enhance road safety awareness and promote best practices in this area. It aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for road safety within their institutions and communities.

The training program featured master trainers from accident-prone districts, who provided valuable insights and expertise during the sessions. Shri Gangadhar Sahoo, IAS (Retd), currently serving as the Principal Project Officer for the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) at IIT Madras, acted as a resource person for the event.

Approximately 40 participants attended the training, including Block Education Officers (BEOs), District Education Officers (DEOs), and principals of government schools. The program covered various aspects of road safety, including accident investigation, safety measures, and strategies for raising road safety awareness among students and the community.

This initiative by the Commerce and Transport Department aims to foster a culture of road safety within educational institutions and to empower administrators and principals to take a proactive role in promoting safe driving practices and reducing accidents. By collaborating with experts from CoERS at IIT Madras and other key stakeholders, the department ensures that participants receive high-quality training and guidance.

The department hopes that the knowledge and skills acquired from this training program will be effectively implemented in schools and communities, contributing to a safer and more responsible culture among road users. The success of this program is expected to positively impact road safety in the region, and the department plans to continue similar initiatives in the future.
