Pune: The Maharashtra government is mulling imposing lockdown in some cities if the number of coronavirus cases continue to rise.
State health minister Rajesh Tope said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was in favour of lockdown if the new cases keep rising.
If the daily cases in the state remains in the range of 25,000 to 30,000 for the next few days, then we will be forced to take some stringent steps to contain the spread of coronavirus
The minister also pointed out that several poll-bound states are witnessing mega rallies where social distancing norms are flouted.
Defending the state over its handling of the fresh spike in cases, the minister said that in terms of cases per million population, many states have fared worse.
The Minister said is at 7th position. In the last one month, Sikkim saw six times more cases, he said and added that in Ladakh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, cases are increasing. Andhra Pradesh saw an increase of 180 per cent, the health minister added.
