The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha until July 5, due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

As a result, several districts in Odisha are expected to experience moderate to heavy downpours in the coming days.

A Red Warning has been issued for extremely heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore districts for June 30, signaling a high likelihood of serious disruption. Additionally, Orange Warnings are in place for seven districts, and Yellow Warnings for 15 districts, highlighting varying degrees of rainfall intensity and potential hazards.

For July 1, Orange Warnings remain in effect for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, where heavy rainfall may cause waterlogging, transportation delays, power supply disruptions, and an increased risk of landslides in hilly areas. Fourteen other districts including Bargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, and Bhadrak, have been placed under Yellow Warning for the possibility of isolated heavy showers.

The Odisha government has responded proactively. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed all district Collectors to stay vigilant, keep emergency control rooms operational, and deploy quick-response teams. Disaster response units, including ODRAF, NDRF, and fire services, have been placed on high alert in vulnerable areas.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal. Residents are urged to follow official advisories, stay indoors during heavy rainfall periods, and avoid traveling through waterlogged or flood-prone areas.
