In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through Bhadrak, Odisha, a local businessman was shot and robbed near the Ram Mandir in Charampa on Saturday evening, June 21, 2025.

The victim, identified as Bidyadhar Sahu, a well-known grocery trader in the area, was attacked while returning home after closing his shop.

According to eyewitnesses and police reports, two assailants on a motorcycle trailed Sahu before firing two rounds at him, striking him in the waist. The attackers swiftly snatched a bag containing cash and fled the scene. Sahu, critically injured, was rushed to Bhadrak District Hospital for initial treatment. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was later transferred to a medical facility in Cuttack for advanced care.

The Bhadrak Town Police responded promptly, arriving at the crime scene to initiate an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the attack was a targeted robbery, though authorities are exploring all possible motives. The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits, and forensic teams are analysing evidence collected from the site.

This brazen act of violence in a busy area like Charampa has raised concerns among residents about public safety.

Local shopkeepers and community members expressed shock, urging the authorities to tighten security and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
