India Urges Citizens to Leave Tehran Amid Escalating Iran-Israel Conflict; Over 1500 Students Stranded

As the Iran-Israel conflict intensifies, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an urgent advisory asking all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) who are able to do so using their own resources to immediately relocate to safer locations outside Tehran.

The advisory comes amid rising security threats in the Iranian capital, which has become a focal point of Israeli airstrikes under Operation Rising Lion.

More than 1,500 Indian students, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir, are currently stranded across various parts of Iran. The Embassy has asked those who are not yet in contact with officials to urgently reach out and share their location and contact details. Three emergency helpline numbers have been issued for assistance: +98 9010144557, +98 9128109115, and +98 9128109109.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the embassy is actively coordinating with Indian nationals, especially students, and in some cases has relocated them to safer regions within Iran. Discussions are underway on possible evacuation plans, should the situation deteriorate further.

Meanwhile, the broader conflict continues to escalate. On June 13, Israel launched a massive aerial offensive using over 200 aircraft and drones, targeting over 100 Iranian nuclear and military sites in Tehran, Natanz, Tabriz, and Kermanshah. Iran has vowed retaliation, and regional tensions are at a boiling point.

US President Donald Trump, acting as a self-declared mediator, has urged Iran to evacuate non-essential personnel and consider returning to nuclear talks, while continuing to back Israel’s military strategy. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu remains committed to dismantling Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, signaling a possible expansion of military objectives, including high-level leadership targets.

The situation remains volatile, and Indian authorities are closely monitoring developments while preparing contingency plans to protect their citizens.
