In a tragic incident at Balaramgadi fishing harbour in Balasore, Odisha, two fishermen lost their lives under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Madhusudan Mallick and Santosh Mallick from Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, were among three fishermen who reportedly fell unconscious while applying chemicals to fish on a trawler. The third fisherman is currently receiving treatment at Balasore hospital.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred at the harbour, a bustling hub for local fishermen. The three men were rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared Madhusudan and Santosh dead. The surviving fisherman remains under medical care, and authorities are awaiting further details on his condition. The exact cause of the incident remains unclear, with speculations ranging from chemical exposure to other potential factors. Local police have launched a thorough investigation to determine what led to the sudden loss of consciousness among the fishermen.

The community in Basudevpur and the surrounding areas is in shock, as the deceased were known to be experienced fishermen. The incident has raised concerns about safety practices in the fishing industry, particularly regarding the use of chemicals for fish preservation. Authorities have scheduled a post-mortem examination for August 24 to ascertain the precise cause of death, which could provide critical insights into the tragedy.
