Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the site of the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 265 lives, including passengers, crew, and people on the ground.

Landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, PM Modi proceeded directly to the Meghaninagar crash site, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The London-bound Air India flight tragically crashed into the BJ Medical College complex shortly after take-off on Thursday afternoon. The aircraft was carrying 242 people — 232 passengers and 10 crew members, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among those killed.

The lone survivor is a British national of Indian origin.

Among the ground casualties were four MBBS students and the wife of a local doctor, who were in the medical complex adjacent to the airport.

The nation mourns one of the worst aviation disasters in Indian history, as authorities continue investigation and recovery operations.
