Bengaluru police have arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing and revenue head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Diageo India, in connection with the stampede that occurred outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4. The incident took place during the team’s IPL victory celebrations.
According to India Today, Sosale was detained at Bengaluru airport while attempting to board a flight to Mumbai. In addition, three employees of DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd.—the company responsible for organizing the event—have also been taken into custody.
The arrests follow a directive issued by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who ordered action against key officials of RCB, DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). An FIR had been filed earlier, invoking multiple charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In a major administrative shake-up, CM Siddaramaiah also suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda and several senior police officials over their handling of the event and ensuing chaos.
