The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at transforming Indian agriculture through scientific intervention, was officially launched today at Sakshigopal in Odisha’s Puri district.
The campaign was inaugurated by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, marking a significant step towards modernising farming practices and empowering farmers across the country.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister KV Singh Deo, local MLAs, and senior agricultural scientists were also present at the event.

The initiative, which will run from May 29 to June 12, aims to directly engage with 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts, providing them with hands-on guidance on modern agricultural technologies, soil health management, and climate-resilient farming techniques. Scientists from various research institutions will step out of their laboratories to interact with farmers, ensuring that cutting-edge innovations reach the grassroots level.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Chouhan emphasised that the campaign seeks to make India the “food basket of the world” by bridging the gap between scientific research and practical farming. He highlighted the importance of soil health testing, fertiliser management, and sustainable agricultural practices, urging farmers to adopt new technologies for better productivity and profitability.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the initiative, stating that Odisha has set an example for the nation by implementing farmer-friendly policies. He pointed out that the Samruddh Kisan Yojana, under which the government purchases paddy at Rs 3,100 per quintal, is a testament to the state’s commitment to farmer welfare.
The campaign was symbolically inaugurated with a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, reinforcing the importance of environmental sustainability in agriculture.
