A speedboat carrying tourists capsized in the deep sea off Puri’s coast on Saturday evening, leaving four people struggling to stay afloat.
Among the rescued tourists were former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s brother, Snehasish Ganguly, and sister-in-law Arpita Chatterjee.
The incident occurred near the Sonar Bangla hotel around 6 PM due to high tides hitting the speedboat. All four tourists fell into the sea, prompting a swift response from lifeguards, who successfully rescued them.
Following the incident, a video of the mishap went viral on social media, sparking concerns over water safety measures. The rescued tourists have alleged negligence on the part of the boat operator and have urged the district administration to take strict action against the company responsible for the speedboat ride.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter, ensuring necessary safety precautions are upheld to prevent such accidents in the future.
