During his roadshow in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with flower petals by the family of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a decorated Indian Army officer involved in Operation Sindoor.

Colonel Qureshi, one of two women officers who briefed the media on the counter-terrorism operation earlier this month, made history as the first woman to lead an Indian Army contingent at a multi-national military exercise, Exercise Force 18.

Her family, including twin sister Shyna Sunsara, mother Halima Bibi, and brother Sanjay Qureshi, expressed pride in her achievements and praised the government’s support for women in the armed forces.

“PM Modi has done a lot for women’s empowerment. When your sister does something for the country, it inspires everyone. She is now the country’s sister,” said Shyna Sunsara.

Sanjay Qureshi added, “A woman taking revenge for women who suffered—that’s powerful. We’re thankful to our defence forces and the government for this opportunity.”

PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, where he is set to launch development projects worth over ₹82,950 crore across Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar. His visit comes amid public support for Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military offensive against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Citizens lined the streets during the roadshow to express solidarity with the armed forces and celebrate the success of the operation.
