The body of another engineer who went missing in the Kathajodi river in Cuttack district yesterday was recovered today.
The victims, residents of Maharashtra, had entered the river for bathing when they encountered difficulties in the deep water.
While one of the engineers’ bodies was retrieved yesterday, the search operation continued until today, when the second body was recovered by authorities.
According to reports, the engineers involved in the SCB Medical College and Hospital expansion project were employees of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) India. Four of them entered the river near Biren Mitra Park in Markat Nagar, within CDA Sector 11, unaware of the strong currents in the deep water. Tragically, two of the engineers were swept away.
Rescue operations commenced immediately, with the Odisha Fire Services & Rescue Unit, along with local police from Markat Nagar and Phase-2 stations, intensifying their efforts. Unfortunately, two of the engineers lost their lives.
Local officials and rescue teams have urged the public to exercise caution near water bodies, emphasising the importance of awareness in preventing such tragedies.
