The Shri Jagannath Temple Administration has issued an appeal to devotees, urging them not to consume Mahaprasad on dining tables.
This request comes after a video showing Mahaprasad being eaten in this manner went viral on social media.
Mahaprasad is considered an ‘Annabrahma’—a divine food offering to Lord Jagannath, which holds deep spiritual significance for devotees. Traditionally, Mahaprasad is consumed while sitting on the floor as an act of reverence. The temple administration emphasised the importance of preserving this ritual and respecting the sanctity of the sacred offering.
The viral video sparked discussions among devotees, with many supporting the temple’s appeal to uphold traditional practices. Officials reiterated that consuming Mahaprasad in a respectful manner aligns with longstanding customs and religious sentiments associated with Lord Jagannath’s offerings.
