The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts in Odisha, warning of severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 60-70 kmph within the next two hours.
The affected districts include Koraput, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Balasore, and Ganjam.
The IMD has advised residents to take precautionary measures, including staying indoors, avoiding shelter under trees, and temporarily suspending farming activities. The extreme weather conditions could lead to damage to thatched huts, power and communication lines, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and destruction of standing crops, banana, and papaya trees.
Authorities have urged people to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines to minimise risks. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
