Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man and chairman of Reliance Industries, attended a state dinner hosted in honour of former US President Donald Trump by Qatar at Lusail Palace on May 14. The event drew a host of global dignitaries and underscored the intersection of business and diplomacy.
Ambani was seen warmly greeting both Trump and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani before heading inside for the dinner. According to The Washington Post, the Emir and Trump stood in a formal receiving line for nearly an hour, welcoming several high-profile guests including Ambani.
Footage from the event captured the Reliance chief exchanging pleasantries with the leaders and later engaging in a friendly conversation with US Secretary of Commerce Steve Lutnick.
While the substance of their discussions remains private, Ambani’s presence signals his expanding global footprint and Reliance Industries’ increasing influence across energy, telecom, and emerging tech sectors.
The dinner exemplified Qatar’s strategic use of high-level events to reinforce its position as a bridge between East and West, convening political and corporate powerhouses in a show of soft diplomacy.
