In a major upgrade to Odisha’s railway infrastructure, Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN) has officially become the primary hub for three express trains—Konark Express (Mumbai route), Visakha Express (Secunderabad route), and Visakhapatnam Intercity Express.
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) initiated this transition to decongest Bhubaneswar’s main station, streamline passenger movement, and improve railway access for residents in North Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Barang.
Revised Train Operations:
- Konark Express (Mumbai Route) – Arrives at BBSN; return journey departs at 2:40 PM.
- Visakha Express (Secunderabad Route) – Ends at BBSN; return service departs at 8:00 AM.
- Visakhapatnam Intercity Express – Terminates at BBSN; return train departs at 7:15 AM.
Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, Indian Railways has allocated ₹250 crore for the modernisation of BBSN. The planned upgrades include a 100-foot-wide access road, a proposed link between Raghunathpur and BBSN, new commercial spaces, and passenger facilities such as foot-over bridges and improved lighting systems.
With increasing demand and rising footfall projections, the revamped railway station is expected to enhance travel efficiency and foster economic growth in Odisha.
