India-Pakistan ceasefire violation

The recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan has hit a major roadblock after reports of Pakistan violating the truce along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.

Indian officials have strongly condemned the aggressive actions, warning of serious repercussions if provocations continue.

After three days of intense military engagements, both nations agreed to a ceasefire, which came into effect at 5 PM IST on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Despite this, within hours, Pakistan allegedly breached the truce, prompting a swift response from the Indian government.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called out Pakistan’s army for instigating violence, urging the neighbouring country to contain its military forces.

“An understanding was reached this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan to stop the military action that was going on for the last few days. For the last few hours, this understanding has been violated by Pakistan. The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion. This intrusion is extremely condemnable and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion,” Misri said.

“The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation and have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the borders along the international border as well as the line of control,” he added.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also addressed concerns, speaking with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi about maintaining regional stability.

With heightened tensions, India has implemented several precautionary measures, including:

  • Air raid sirens in Punjab’s Firozpur and Amritsar
  • Blackouts are enforced in border areas like Gurdaspur and Jammu’s Katra
  • Drone activity observed in Gujarat’s Kutch, Punjab, and Jammu’s Nagrota

The Union Home Secretary has engaged in high-level discussions with key state officials to assess the border situation and prepare Civil Defence forces for any emergency response.

Authorities have issued a red alert in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar, urging residents to follow blackout protocols and remain indoors. Surveillance drones are actively monitoring forward locations, though heavy artillery exchanges have reportedly subsided.

While diplomatic talks between India and Pakistan are scheduled for May 12, the continued border violations put the peace process at risk.

The coming days will be crucial in determining whether the ceasefire holds or if renewed military action is needed to safeguard Indian territories.
