War Clouds Over Cricket: IPL 2025 Halted for One Week

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended for one week, following escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan.


The decision was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after a Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was abruptly called off due to air raid alerts in nearby cities.

A BCCI official stated, “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” confirming that the situation will be reassessed before further decisions are made.

The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans ;…

Many foreign players are reportedly expressing concerns about staying in India, and several franchises have voiced support for the suspension. Meanwhile, ticket refunds for upcoming matches, including Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Kolkata Knight Riders, will be issued in due course.

Additionally, public figures such as Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravi Shastri, and Rohit Sharma have expressed solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces during this critical time.

BCCI is working on a revised schedule and alternative venues, aiming to resume the tournament once the situation stabilises. Updates on the new schedule and format will follow after further consultation with stakeholders.
