In the wake of India’s Operation Sindoor—a series of precision airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK)—China has issued a statement urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and avoid escalating the situation.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said it regrets India’s military action but also reiterated its opposition to all forms of terrorism.

The statement comes after India’s targeted retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. India struck nine terrorist locations, including the Bahawalpur base of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke stronghold, sparking retaliatory shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control.

China’s position highlights its balancing act—acknowledging concerns about terrorism while urging regional stability, as it maintains close ties with both New Delhi and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of Defence clarified that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, and the strikes were focused, measured, and non-escalatory, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitoring the operation overnight.
