Pahalgam Attack UNSC Meeting

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened a closed-door meeting today to address escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.

Pakistan, a non-permanent member of the council, requested the meeting amid rising diplomatic hostilities.

India has responded to the attack with a series of stringent measures, including expelling Pakistani diplomats, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari border, and restricting Pakistani flights in its airspace. Pakistan has countered by shutting its own airspace to Indian flights and rejecting India’s treaty suspension as an “act of war.” Meanwhile, Pakistan has also test-fired the Fatah Series missile, further intensifying the crisis.

Defense analysts suggest India may be considering a military response, with high-level government meetings and security drills indicating heightened preparedness. Ceasefire violations along the border have been reported for 11 consecutive days, adding to fears of a full-scale confrontation.

As regional tensions rise, international diplomatic efforts are underway to defuse the crisis. The UNSC meeting may set the tone for future negotiations between the two nations.
