The Odisha Raj Bhavan is on track to become fully solar-powered in the next three to four months, a milestone in the state’s clean energy initiatives.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati announced plans to install a 400 kW solar power plant, which will complement the existing 150 kW unit.

The governor emphasised that once the new plant is fully operational, Raj Bhavan’s electricity bill—currently around ₹3 lakh per month—will reduce to zero, marking a significant step toward sustainability and energy self-sufficiency.

In addition to solar power, the Raj Bhavan fleet now includes Made-in-India electric vehicles (EVs). The new fleet consists of four official cars and two-wheelers for staff, reinforcing the governor’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Governor Kambhampati encouraged Odisha residents to take advantage of government schemes promoting solar adoption. He highlighted the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which offers subsidies for rooftop solar panels, and PM KUSUM Yojana, designed to help farmers install solar-powered irrigation pumps.

“Transitioning to solar energy is not just a choice—it’s a necessity. We must embrace sustainable solutions to ensure a greener, energy-independent future,” said Governor Kambhampati.

The Raj Bhavan’s transition to solar energy symbolises Odisha’s leadership in green energy adoption. With government-backed initiatives making solar power more accessible, the governor hopes to see widespread participation from citizens in the state’s shift towards renewable energy.
