Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, the eminent scientist who led the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 1994 to 2003.
Addressing the nation during the 121st episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ PM Modi remembered Dr. Kasturirangan for his groundbreaking contributions to India’s space programme and education system.
“Two days ago, we lost one of the country’s greatest scientists, Dr. K. Kasturirangan,” said the Prime Minister. “Whenever I met him, we would discuss India’s youth, space science, modern education, and much more.” Modi highlighted that Dr. Kasturirangan’s leadership at ISRO brought India global recognition, with several critical satellites launched under his guidance.
Dr. Kasturirangan, who is also credited with playing a pivotal role in shaping India’s National Education Policy, was praised by PM Modi for his focus on innovation and forward-thinking education. “His vision of always learning something new is truly inspiring for the younger generation,” the Prime Minister added.
Modi emphasized Dr. Kasturirangan’s immense legacy, which extends beyond space science, acknowledging his efforts to create a more holistic and progressive education system. “India will always be grateful for his contributions to the National Education Policy, which has made learning in India more forward-looking,” he said.
Concluding his tribute, PM Modi offered his condolences to Dr. Kasturirangan’s family, students, and admirers, adding, “I offer my humble tributes to Dr. K. Kasturirangan.”
Earlier, PM Modi had expressed his grief on social media, calling Dr. Kasturirangan a “towering figure” in India’s scientific and educational journey.
