The Indian Premier League (IPL) continues to serve as a stage for India’s budding cricket talent, with Ravi Shastri, former India coach, identifying four uncapped batters poised for future international success.

In his conversation on “The ICC Review” with Sanjana Ganesan, Shastri delved into the fearless performances displayed by teenage sensations that have captured the tournament’s spotlight.

Among the promising talents, Chennai Super Kings’ Ayush Mhatre, just 17 years old, dazzled against a formidable Mumbai Indians bowling lineup, showcasing bold strokeplay and scoring an impressive 32 off 15 balls. Mhatre’s replacement status, following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, didn’t deter his confidence as he displayed audacious shots against seasoned bowlers. Shastri remarked on Mhatre’s future potential, asserting that proper handling and mentorship could help the youngster realize his abilities.

Another standout is 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals, whose whirlwind knock of 34 off 20 balls included a remarkable six off IPL veteran Shardul Thakur. Shastri, while praising Suryavanshi’s raw talent, also stressed caution, pointing out that his adaptability to diverse bowling strategies will be crucial in his career trajectory.

In addition, Punjab Kings’ opening duo, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, have turned heads with their fearless approach and aggressive batting. Arya’s incredible strike rate and century against Chennai Super Kings caught Shastri’s attention as a clear indication of talent ready for the international stage.

Despite the excitement surrounding these prodigies, Shastri urged selectors to back players in form, emphasizing the importance of confidence and timely support. He also advised on the challenges young players may encounter, such as managing pressure and tackling varied tactics from bowlers.

As the IPL 2025 season unfolds, the focus remains on how these young stars transition from the domestic league’s spotlight to the international arena, possibly heralding a new chapter for Indian cricket.
