In a move reflecting the nation’s somber mood and underlying geopolitical strains, FanCode, a leading Indian streaming platform, has suspended the broadcast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 in India.

This decision came in the wake of a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed over 25 innocent lives, including those of Indian tourists.

The decision underscores the complex interplay of sports and geopolitics. The PSL, Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament, has often encountered mixed reactions in India due to the tense diplomatic ties between the neighboring countries.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to comment on this development, the suspension highlights the shared emotions and political considerations that influence such actions.

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families, IPL 2025 teams Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad also observed moments of silence during their match on April 23. Players wore black armbands, and the typically vibrant match environment was toned down as fireworks, music, and cheerleaders were withheld as a mark of respect.

The gesture echoes past instances of solidarity by the cricketing world. In 2019, the BCCI paid homage to victims of the Pulwama attack by canceling the IPL opening ceremony and donating the funds to victim welfare. India’s national cricket team also sported camouflage caps during an ODI against Australia as a tribute.
