In a significant move to enhance security for Odisha’s rapidly growing industrial sector, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the formation of a new battalion for the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF).

The CM announced the creation of 1,040 new posts to support the operational needs of the new battalion, reinforcing the state’s commitment to safeguarding its industrial and commercial infrastructure.

The OISF, established to provide specialised security to industrial establishments and critical commercial zones, currently operates with one battalion comprising 1,807 personnel. With the addition of the new battalion, the total strength of the OISF will rise to two battalions, with a combined workforce of 2,847 personnel. This expansion is a strategic response to the increasing demand for robust security measures as Odisha witnesses a surge in industrial investments and new business ventures.

Odisha has emerged as a key destination for industrial growth in India, with sectors such as steel, mining, and manufacturing driving economic progress. The state government has prioritised industrial development, attracting both domestic and international investors. However, with this growth comes the need to ensure the safety of industrial units, warehouses, and other commercially significant locations. The new OISF battalion will play a pivotal role in addressing these security challenges, providing dedicated protection to critical infrastructure and fostering a safe environment for business operations.

Chief Minister Majhi’s decision reflects the government’s proactive approach to aligning security measures with industrial expansion. “The establishment of a second OISF battalion underscores our commitment to creating a secure ecosystem for industries to thrive,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office noted. The new battalion is expected to be deployed across key industrial hubs, ensuring comprehensive coverage and rapid response to potential security threats.

The creation of 1,040 new posts will also generate employment opportunities in the state. These positions will include a range of roles, from security personnel to administrative and logistical support staff, offering jobs to local youth and strengthening the state’s security framework. Recruitment processes are expected to commence soon, with details to be announced by the Home Department.

This initiative is part of a broader vision to position Odisha as a leader in industrial development while maintaining a secure and investor-friendly environment. The state government’s focus on enhancing security infrastructure is likely to boost investor confidence, encouraging further investments and contributing to economic growth.

As Odisha continues to chart its path toward industrial prominence, the expansion of the OISF marks a crucial step in safeguarding the state’s economic assets. With two battalions now dedicated to industrial security, the state is well-equipped to protect its industries and ensure sustained growth in the years to come.
