IIT Bhubaneswar recently organized a session titled “Indian Traditions of Science and Technology: Their Past, Present & Future,” featuring a distinguished talk and interaction by Dr. M. D. Srinivas, a Padma Shri awardee in Science and Technology.

The event underscored India’s profound contributions to science and technology, tracing roots to the Vedic period, and discussed how traditional knowledge systems flourished before colonial disruptions. Dr. Srinivas emphasized the need for reviving and integrating indigenous scientific thought into modern academia to retain its relevance in today’s educational framework.

A significant highlight of the session was the inauguration of the ‘Udayagiri Hall of Learning,’ a state-of-the-art facility at IIT Bhubaneswar designed to enhance the teaching-learning experience.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, remarked, “While science and technology transcend boundaries, the cultural identity of scientists shapes how knowledge is pursued. Rediscovering our traditions will help enrich the modern world.”

The event, coordinated by Dr. Vijayakrishna Kari, witnessed active participation from students, faculty, staff, and residents of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus, reinforcing the importance of preserving and advancing India’s scientific legacy.
