A serene spiritual procession in Kalapita village, under Haladi Panchayat, turned into a scene of tragedy on Saturday, as an elderly man lost his life in a shocking act of violence.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community.
Bibhisan Dharua, 75, was reportedly observing the ongoing spiritual procession when his nephew, Puran Dharua, 65, allegedly attacked him with a stick, striking him on the head. The attack, believed to have stemmed from prior enmity, resulted in Bibhisan’s instant death on the spot. The peaceful religious gathering was marred as bloodshed replaced harmony.
According to local sources, Puran Dhrua has a history of violent behavior and had previously served a jail term for murder. Following the incident, the Muribahal Police quickly intervened, seizing the weapon used in the attack and detaining the accused for further interrogation. The deceased’s body was recovered and sent to Titlagarh Hospital for an autopsy. A case (81/2025) has been registered as investigations continue.
The tragic event has left the villagers in shock, with many questioning how past enmity could escalate to such a horrifying outcome. As police deepen their probe, the victim’s family is left grappling with grief.
This act of violence highlights the dire need for conflict resolution and the importance of fostering peaceful relations within families and communities.
