Italian tennis sensation Matteo Berrettini secured the biggest win of his career at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev in a gripping three-set match with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Playing in front of an electrified crowd on Court Rainier III, Berrettini displayed remarkable resilience and adaptability, overcoming a slow start to dominate the second set and emerge victorious in the tense decider. A crucial turning point came during a marathon 48-shot rally in the third set, where Berrettini’s aggressive forehand secured the break and eventually the match.
Berrettini, ranked World No. 34, soaked in the applause from a jubilant crowd after his victory. The 28-year-old has shown formidable prowess on clay, winning 17 of his last 18 matches on the surface and claiming multiple ATP titles last season.

Berrettini’s next opponent will be either Czech player Jiri Lehecka or fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, adding excitement to the tournament’s narrative.
