Security across Mumbai has been heightened after a threat e-mail targeted several high-profile locations in the city, including Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow Jalsa, the Bombay High Court, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), and the Worli Racecourse.
The e-mail warned of bomb attacks across these premier landmarks, prompting the Mumbai Police to launch an urgent investigation to identify the sender and secure the premises.
This marks the second threat naming the veteran actor in recent weeks. During his customary Sunday greeting outside his residence, Bachchan was seen behind a protective glass shield alongside his son, Abhishek Bachchan.
The visible security escalation led the All Indian Cine Workers Association to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi, voicing grave concerns regarding the safety of film industry personalities and their families.
The latest scare comes amid growing anxiety over celebrity safety in Mumbai following an October 18 firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff’s car, an attack claimed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Threatening messages were also recently received by actors Tusshar Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana.
While the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a 30-year-old Bengaluru-based IT engineer on Wednesday in connection with those extortion threats, preliminary probes indicate no direct operational links to the Bishnoi network. Investigations into the origin and authenticity of the latest bomb threat e-mail remain ongoing.
