Devotees heading to Puri for the upcoming New Year celebrations are in for a seamless and comfortable spiritual experience.
The Odisha state government will introduce a dedicated Dhadi Darshan (queue-based darshan) system at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple before the New Year, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Friday.
The new system, aimed at reducing congestion and streamlining crowd movement, is expected to roll out right after the holy month of Kartik and well before the year-end rush. Technical preparations for the project are currently in their final stages.
Key Highlights of the New System
-
Eight-Ramp Mechanism: Under the proposed framework, eight ramps will be installed to allow up to 10,000 devotees per hour to view the deities simultaneously.
-
Location: The queue complex will be set up between the historic Garuda Stambha and the Bahara Katha (the outer wooden barricade).
-
IIT Bhubaneswar Design: The mechanism functions like a collapsible bridge designed with technical support from IIT Bhubaneswar. It will open during darshan hours and retract smoothly once rituals begin.
-
Final Approvals: The Chhatisha Nijog and the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee will review the final setup shortly, after which official implementation will begin.
