The Basta Police successfully foiled a major dacoity plot late last night near the Haladipada bypass, arresting three active members of a notorious local crime syndicate.

Addressing a press conference at the office of the Basta Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) confirmed that the police team acted swiftly on credible intelligence regarding a planned robbery at the Haldipada Sriram Petrol Pump.

Midnight Raid & Arrests

Following instructions from Basta IIC Ranjit Sahoo and SDPO Samartha Kumar Behera, a team led by SI Sandeep Kujur raided the spot at around 12:50 AM. Six armed youths had assembled near the bypass to execute the robbery. While the police team strategically cornered and apprehended three miscreants, three others managed to escape using the cover of darkness.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Manoj Kumar Nayak (26), son of Sarat Nayak, hailing from Phuladi village (Sadar Police Station limits).

  • Jayanta Barik (26), son of Gananath Barik, from Barangia village (Sadar Police Station limits).

  • Pabana Jena alias Daniel (27), son of the late Jagannath Jena, from Govinda village (Basta Police Station limits).

Uncovering the ‘RG Company’ Gang

During interrogation, the arrested suspects revealed that they belong to a notorious criminal gang named “RG Company,” operated by Rakesh Senapati, Gana Dehuri, and Paranjaya Das.

The gang primarily coordinated through an Instagram group to carry out highway robberies, extortion, abductions, and violent threats across the region. Police recovered lethal weapons, mobile phones, and a four-wheeler from their possession.

Multiple Cases Pending; Hunt On for Fugitives

According to the police, the accused are habitual offenders with multiple pending cases registered across several police stations, including Basta, Rupsa, Sadar, Remuna, Sahadevkhunta, Town, Industrial, Chandipur, and Nilagiri.

The arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody under Basta Police Station Case No. 534/26.

The Additional SP highlighted that a dedicated police team has been formed to curb theft, robbery, and highway crimes across Balasore district. Investigation is underway, and raids are ongoing to apprehend the three fleeing suspects soon.
