In view of a potential cyclone threatening the state, the Odisha government has proactively stepped up measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain of essential commodities for consumers.
To guarantee that essential items remain accessible and affordable to the public, the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has initiated comprehensive preventive steps.
Principal Secretary of the department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, has issued official directives mandating strict vigilance. Furthermore, field officers have been instructed to take stringent action against dishonest traders, hoarders, and black marketeers attempting to exploit the situation.
According to available data, the prices of essential staples such as various types of pulses, edible oil, sugar, potatoes, and onions in major markets across the state have remained stable compared to the previous week.
Departmental field officers are conducting daily inspections to monitor both the buying and selling prices of these essential goods. Additionally, the department noted that the arrival of locally produced vegetables in the market is expected to further drive down vegetable prices in the coming days.
The government has issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant. If any instances of black marketing or illegal profiteering are observed, the public is requested to immediately report them to the local Chief Civil Supplies Officer (CSO) or the respective supply officers for prompt action.
