The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially overhauled its Junior Selection Committee, naming former India fast-bowler Parvinder Awana as the new Chairman.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) conducted a rigorous screening and interview process before finalising the appointments.
Joining Awana on the revamped committee are experienced former cricketers Krishna Das, Rakesh Patel, and N. Arjun Yadav as members. The panel brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the table:
-
Parvinder Awana (Chairman): Represented India in two T20Is and claimed 191 wickets across 62 First-Class matches for Delhi, India A, and the Rest of India, alongside IPL stints with Kings XI Punjab and subsequent coaching roles with Delhi and India U19.
-
Krishna Das: A stalwart for Assam and Goa with 166 First-Class wickets, who has transitioned into coaching roles for India U19 and Uttarakhand.
-
Rakesh Patel: Former player for Gujarat, Baroda, and India A, bringing extensive coaching pedigree, including the Baroda U23 head coach role.
-
N. Arjun Yadav: A member of India’s victorious 2000 U19 World Cup squad who played 83 First-Class matches for Hyderabad and India A, and has served as a BCCI Match Referee since 2022.
The BCCI confirmed that a fifth member representing the Central Zone will be named shortly. Meanwhile, former front-runner Ramesh Powar was recently appointed as the West Zone representative on the senior selection committee, succeeding Ajit Agarkar.
The newly formed junior committee faces the crucial task of selecting elite age-group squads—such as the Under-19 World Cup team—while successfully balancing competitive trophy aspirations with the long-term developmental needs of the senior Indian national team.
