To effectively combat rising air pollution levels, the Delhi Traffic Police hosted an inter-state coordination meeting on Thursday with neighboring state police authorities and civic agencies.
Chaired by Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhry and attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.K. Singh, the session focused on enforcing the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and directives issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Key Anti-Pollution Measures and Enforcement Strategies
To streamline multi-agency collaboration, authorities have outlined several critical steps:
- Dedicated WhatsApp Group: A real-time communication channel will be established to share CAQM directions, monitor department actions, and ensure swift inter-agency enforcement.
- Inter-State Bus Diversions: Non-compliant inter-city and inter-state buses will be diverted directly at Delhi’s borders to prevent internal traffic congestion and secondary vehicular emissions. Only electric vehicles (EVs), compressed natural gas (CNG), and BS-VI diesel buses are permitted under specific conditions.
- Vehicle Entry Restrictions: Entry restrictions for vehicles registered outside Delhi will be strictly implemented from November 1 to January 31, subject to notified exemptions. Prominent display boards will be installed at entry points to warn motorists.
- Joint Border Enforcement: Joint enforcement teams will be deployed at city borders to check overloaded and non-destined vehicles, enforce no-entry timings, and crack down on trucks violating construction and demolition (C&D) material transport norms.
Dust Control and Public Awareness
Civic agencies have been instructed to expedite ongoing construction projects, minimize dust generation, and maintain regular water sprinkling on roads and at active construction sites. Additionally, vehicle owners are urged to secure valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC), while public awareness campaigns will highlight GRAP protocols and vehicle restrictions.
