The Ganjam district police arrested 61 individuals during coordinated raids on approximately 10 alleged illegal gambling dens across the region.
The operation, executed on October 20, yielded significant seizures, including Rs 2,19,480 in cash, a large quantity of playing cards, and five mobile phones.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Harisha B.C. stated that the raids were launched as part of an intensified district-wide drive to curb illegal gambling and maintain public order during the Durga Puja festivities.
“We conducted sudden raids across different parts of the district to clamp down on unlawful activities during the festive celebrations,” SP Harisha B.C. noted, confirming the recovery of the cash and contraband items from the suspects.
Legal proceedings have been initiated with cases registered against all 61 arrested persons under relevant legal provisions. Police officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to trace any broader networks or organisers operating behind these dens.
Reiterating the department’s zero-tolerance stance, the SP emphasised that the police will continue their aggressive crackdown on illegal gambling and other criminal activities throughout the district to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for residents.
