The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Odisha is well underway, with the weather department confirming its complete exit from 10 districts across the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the monsoon has completely retreated from Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagada, Sonepur (Subarnapur), Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur. Additionally, major portions of Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar have also cleared the monsoon, while withdrawal has begun in parts of Anugola, Boudh, Kandhamala, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
The monsoon withdrawal line currently passes through Angul. Meteorological officials predict that the monsoon will completely withdraw from the remaining parts of the state and the country over the next 2 to 3 days.
Shifting Weather & Early Winter Chill
With clear skies and dry weather dominating, a distinct seasonal shift is in the air. Most parts of western and interior Odisha are experiencing completely dry conditions, while early morning and nighttime hours are bringing a refreshing, light chill, signalling the onset of winter.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation persists over the south Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood, which is likely to spawn a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal. However, due to unfavourable atmospheric and oceanic conditions, it is expected to remain weak—limiting its impact primarily to a low-pressure or well-marked system with minimal direct effect on Odisha.
