The Ministry of Railways has accelerated its nationwide effort under the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM-6), setting ambitious targets to clean 1,00,000 sites, clear 7,00,000 square feet of spatial backlog, and generate ₹600 crore through scrap and e-waste disposal by the end of October 2026.
Following a high-level review chaired by the Secretary of the Railway Board, railway divisions across India have rolled out specialized drives aimed at waste management, workplace hygiene, and public engagement.
Key Highlights
Pan-India Citizen Engagement: On October 22, 2026, Indian Railways will host a nationwide Rail Jan Samvaad across all stations. A dedicated segment, Rail Jan Yuva Samvaad, will specifically target youth participation in public transport sustainability.
Focus on E-Waste & Recycling: The drive prioritizes the systematic collection, segregation, and scientific disposal of e-waste in line with E-Waste (Management) Rules, alongside implementing “Waste to Wonder” creative recycling initiatives.
Regional Execution: Zonal divisions have already initiated focused drives, including a 4-stream solid waste segregation campaign at Sirhind Junction, major sanitation and cleanliness programs at Hazrat Nizamuddin and Eastern Railway facilities, and specialized health checkup camps for staff at Nagpur.
The month-long campaign, running from October 2 to October 31, 2026, aims to institutionalize sustainable cleanliness practices while systematically clearing administrative pendency across all rail networks.
