Kharvelnagar Police have arrested 26-year-old Idris Quruban Vana, owner of Cafe Turf 247 in Satyanagar, for violently assaulting an equipment vendor over unpaid rental dues and attempting to destroy evidence.
According to police, the complainant, Prajwala Mahapatra, had rented out two 65-inch TVs, a PS5 console, and a 1,000-watt speaker to the cafe on a daily rent of Rs 1,000 since its inauguration in Sept. On the night of Oct 7, when Mahapatra visited the cafe to collect long-overdue rent, Vana verbally abused him and kicked him to the floor.
In front of patrons, Vana dragged Mahapatra and intentionally pushed him into a glass door, causing the glass to shatter. Shattered glass fragments inflicted deep facial injuries on Mahapatra, causing severe bleeding before friends rushed him to the hospital.
Investigation revealed that Vana intentionally deleted the cafe’s CCTV footage post-incident to erase evidence. Police arrested Vana, who confessed to the crime. Officers noted that the accused has two prior criminal cases registered against him at Tamando and Kataka Sadar police stations. He has been forwarded to court as further investigation continues.
