The administration of Khariar (Autonomous) College in Odisha’s Nuapada district has officially cancelled the upcoming Students’ Union Election for the 2026–27 session.
Citing critical concerns regarding the safety and security of students, staff, and campus property, the college authorities have also declared the institution shut sine die until further orders.
According to an official notice (Letter No. 786/KACK/2026) issued on October 11, 2026, by the Principal-in-Charge, the election that was scheduled to take place on October 15, 2026, stands cancelled due to a rapidly deteriorating situation on campus. The administration noted that unforeseen concerns left them with no alternative but to call off the democratic process to preserve peace and order.
“It is hereby notified to all the students and contesting candidates that the Students’ Union Election… has been cancelled in view of the prevailing situation and unforeseen concerns regarding the safety and security of students, staff, and the institution,” the official statement read.
In addition to shutting down academic operations indefinitely, the college management directed all boarders residing in both the Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels to vacate the premises by 5:00 PM today, October 11, 2026.
The abrupt order has sent students into a scramble as hundreds prepare to leave campus on short notice. Local authorities and campus security remain on high alert to prevent any potential unrest following the announcement.
Further directives regarding the reopening of the institution and the resumption of academic schedules will be issued by the competent authority once the situation stabilises.
