Fans were intrigued when Carlos Alcaraz stepped onto the courts of the Rolex Shanghai Masters sporting a distinctive moustache.
The young Spanish star has now revealed that the facial hair is more than just a style statement. It is a celebration of his recent success in Tokyo.
According to Alcaraz, the moustache was born from a light-hearted promise made to his team before the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo. He told his entourage that if he lifted the title, everyone would have to grow a moustache. After securing the championship, the challenge quickly became a reality.
The celebration reached a memorable moment when one member of the team enthusiastically shouted, “Bigotes para todos!” or “Moustaches for everyone!” following the victory.
Alcaraz carried the playful tradition into Shanghai and even wrote “Moustache team!” on the camera lens after his opening-round win. The World No. 2 admitted he had always wanted to compete at least once with a moustache and is enjoying the experience alongside his team.
The Spaniard confirmed that the moustache is likely to stay throughout the Shanghai tournament, adding another layer of personality to his campaign as he aims for a deep run at the prestigious Masters event.
While the moustache has become a talking point among fans, Alcaraz hopes the real story in Shanghai will be his tennis as he continues his quest for glory on one of the ATP Tour’s biggest stages.
