The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer (EE) of the R&B Sub-Division in Betanati (under the R&B Division, Baripada, Mayurbhanj district), on charges of amassing massive wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Mohanty was taken into custody and will be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada.
The arrest follows extensive simultaneous searches conducted by Odisha Vigilance teams across multiple properties linked to the engineer. Investigators uncovered an astonishing inventory of movable and immovable assets, which Mohanty allegedly failed to explain satisfactorily during questioning.
The Loot: Assets Uncovered So Far
According to official reports, the anti-corruption wing has unearthed a staggering portfolio of wealth, including:

Real Estate: 2 multi-storeyed buildings and a sprawling 5-acre farmhouse.

Land Holdings: 23 high-value plots located across prime areas.

Precious Metals: Approximately 300 grams of gold jewellery.

Cash Seizures: A total cash recovery of Rs 10,57,500, which includes a fresh unearthing of Rs 2.50 lakhs during a search at his residential house in Balianta, Bhubaneswar.

Financial Investments: Bank and other financial deposits totalling Rs 69.69 lakhs.

Vehicles: 1 four-wheeler.
Legal Action Underway
Following the raids and preliminary findings, the Baleshwar Vigilance Police Station has formally registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation is currently underway to ascertain if more individuals or front entities are involved in helping Mohanty launder or conceal his disproportionate wealth. Odisha Vigilance authorities have stated that comprehensive checks on his financial trails and asset valuations will continue.
