Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP), Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, conducted a comprehensive review of law and order in the Northern Range on Thursday, focusing on preparations for upcoming festivals and intensifying anti-Maoist operations in the state.

The meeting underscored the state’s commitment to maintaining peace during Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti, and Mahabishuva Sankranti celebrations.

DGP Khurania emphasized the importance of robust police arrangements to ensure smooth festivities. He also reviewed anti-Maoist operations in Balangir and Bargarh districts, areas long affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). During the meeting, the DGP urged Maoists to abandon violence and join the mainstream, aligning with the state’s broader strategy to eradicate Maoism by 2026.

The Odisha government has been proactive in tackling Maoist challenges, with initiatives like the “Gramodaya” program targeting 583 villages across 10 LWE-affected districts, including Bargarh and Balangir. Khurania’s visit to the Northern Range reflects the administration’s multi-pronged approach, combining security measures with developmental outreach to curb Maoist influence.

In a morale-boosting gesture, Khurania awarded the DGP’s Commendation Medal to seven police personnel for their exemplary service. The ceremony, attended by senior officers, highlighted the state’s recognition of dedication amid challenging circumstances.

This review comes at a critical juncture as Odisha prepares for major festivals while addressing security concerns in Maoist-affected regions.
