A terrifying incident unfolded in Chaunsria Sahi under Kodinga police station limits in Nabarangpur’s Koshagumuda block, where a 1.5-year-old child was brutally mauled by a stray dog while sleeping inside his home.
The victim, the toddler son of local resident Raju Dalai, sustained grave injuries to his face, eyes, and cheeks after an aggressive stray dog sneaked inside the house and attacked him unexpectedly. Hearing the child’s desperate cries, Raju’s sister, Rekha Dalai, rushed in from outside to scare away the animal. However, the vicious canine turned on her and launched an attack on her as well. Neighbours immediately rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, forcing the stray dog to flee the scene.
Following the heart-wrenching incident, the family and locals immediately rushed the critically injured toddler to the Kodinga Community Health Centre (CHC). Given the severity of his facial injuries, doctors provided preliminary medical care before shifting him via a 108 ambulance to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
As the child’s condition required specialised paediatric intervention, he was subsequently referred to the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput. Sources confirm that due to the critical nature of the injuries, the child has now been transferred to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) in Kataka for advanced medical care.
