The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) officially launched its statewide annual Jan Sampark Padayatra today from Raja Padia near the airport under the Ekamra Assembly Constituency.
Running through November 2, the month-long mass outreach campaign began on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
BJD President and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the foot march alongside thousands of party workers, leaders, and supporters. Addressing the massive gathering, Patnaik stated that the BJD has always remained in the hearts of the people of Odisha through its dedicated service and good work, and will continue to do so.
Key Highlights & Accusations Raised
Launching a sharp critique of the current administration, Shri Patnaik asserted that Odisha is passing through a difficult period under a government that claims to represent the people but fails to address their grievances:
-
Widespread Public Hardships: Patnaik highlighted that children are facing shortages of textbooks, senior citizens are struggling to receive pensions, farmers are enduring immense hardships, and mothers are facing multiple problems. He also pointed out a breakdown in law and order.
-
Administrative Incompetence: Citing severe mismanagement, he criticised the government’s failure to properly manage Mahaprabhu’s Rath Yatra. He further pointed out systemic chaos in flood relief distribution, paddy procurement, recruitment examinations, and financial management, remarking that the administration seems exceptionally skilled only at mismanagement.
-
Compromise on Mineral Resources: Patnaik accused the Central Government of stripping Odisha of its rights over local mineral resources. He slammed the silence of the State Government and the State’s BJP MPs, stating it proves the ruling party is anti-people and prioritises mine owners over public welfare.
-
Educational & Economic Concerns: Expressing deep concern over thousands of uncorrected errors in school textbooks, he warned that the government’s mistakes are jeopardising students’ futures. He also questioned the logic behind declining state revenue, unutilized budget allocations, stalled developmental activities, and a continuously mounting debt burden.
Concluding his address, Shri Patnaik called upon all BJD workers to follow the ideals of Biju Babu and further intensify the party’s struggle for the rights, dignity, and development of Odisha.
