In a major breakthrough, the Phulbani Town Police, under the directive of SP Harish Bishi and direct supervision of SDPO Shubhrajeet Bishwal, successfully dismantled a high-profile bike theft racket on Thursday.
Acting on crucial leads, the police team recovered nine premium motorcycles and apprehended four accused, including the alleged mastermind.
The operation was spearheaded by IIC P. Swaroop Kishan, whose team conducted coordinated raids across several locations. The seized motorcycles included eight Yamaha R15 bikes and one Pulsar 200cc.
The crackdown followed a complaint lodged by Swarna Behera, whose Yamaha R15 was stolen on June 18 from near her residence in Jiringipada. She submitted CCTV footage of the theft and warned authorities of legal action if they failed to act. Prompt police action ensued, leading to the arrests.
The stolen bikes were linked to multiple FIRs across jurisdictions, including Bhubaneswar, Kharvel Nagar, Laxmisagar, Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, Bharatpur, and Maitree Vihar.
The arrested individuals were identified as Dillip Kanhar of Tikabali, Bikash Kanhar of Bahada Padar, Rudra Madhab Bagarti of Koti Maha, and Chandan Digal of Talapada.
Police have initiated further investigations to uncover more links within the criminal network.
