A 7-year-old orphaned girl in Bhubaneswar was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by her grandfather, including being branded with hot iron rods.
The case came to light when the minor was rescued from the Shahid Nagar area.
Following the death of her parents, the young girl was placed under the care of her grandfather. Reports indicate that both he and a female accomplice inflicted continuous physical abuse upon her, with the child bearing marks consistent with beatings and burns. Unable to endure the mistreatment, she fled her home and sought refuge near an old Shiva temple.
A concerned citizen, Kumar Swain, discovered the distressed child near the temple and promptly escorted her to the Shahid Nagar police station. Authorities then entrusted her to the Ruchika Social Service Organisation, which is now overseeing her care. The Shahid Nagar police have initiated an official investigation into the matter.
