A tragic road accident in Puri district claimed the life of a 55-year-old man after a vehicle struck him on the Satashankha–Nimapada main road late Thursday.
The incident triggered tension in the area as angry residents gathered at Nuahat and staged a road blockade. The protest disrupted traffic, causing long delays and congestion. Police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victim died instantly after the collision. His identity has not yet been confirmed. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and trace the driver responsible.
Local residents demanded strict action against the accused driver and highlighted the recurring issue of road safety in Odisha. They argued that poor enforcement of traffic rules and reckless driving continue to endanger lives.
The Puri police assured that further details will be shared after the investigation. Officials emphasised that measures are being taken to restore order and ensure safety in the area.
