Mumbai witnessed a devastating tragedy as five passengers were feared dead after falling from an overcrowded local train near Kasara.
Reports indicate that at least 10 to 12 passengers fell onto the tracks due to excessive crowding inside the train.
The incident occurred on a local train travelling from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus towards Thane’s Kasara area. Passengers were reportedly hanging onto the doors due to a lack of space inside the compartments when the tragedy struck.
Railway authorities rushed to the scene, evacuating injured passengers to the nearest hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and whether safety measures were properly enforced.
Officials are urging immediate steps to address the chronic issue of overcrowding on Mumbai’s local trains, a problem that endangers commuters daily.
