Twenty-seven Maoists, including ten women, surrendered to Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF in Sukma district on Wednesday.
The group included one central committee member, fifteen party members, and eleven others from various Maoist organizations. These cadres actively operated across Sukma and took part in violent incidents such as encounters, IED blasts, and attacks on security forces.
Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said the ongoing anti-Naxal and rehabilitation campaigns persuaded the cadres to renounce violence and embrace peace. Police officials confirmed that the surrendered Maoists will receive rehabilitation support under the state government’s policy.
Authorities disclosed that the group carried a total bounty of Rs 50 lakh. One cadre had a reward of Rs 10 lakh, three had Rs 8 lakh each, one had Rs 3 lakh, two had Rs 2 lakh each, and nine had Rs 1 lakh each.
The mass surrender struck a significant blow to Maoist operations in the Bastar division. Officials believe the decision reflects a growing realization among cadres about the futility of violence and the benefits of reintegration into society.
Police and CRPF continue to encourage more surrenders by expanding outreach and development programs in affected regions.
