A 25-year-old chartered accountant working in Gurugram took his own life at an Airbnb flat near Janpath, New Delhi.
The young man had booked the property from July 20 to 28, but was found dead on July 28 after hotel staff alerted authorities when his room remained locked from the inside for an extended period.
Delhi police confirmed the presence of a helium gas cylinder connected to three plastic pipes inside the room. Helium inhalation is known to be fatal, as it displaces oxygen in the body and can lead to unconsciousness and death.
In a suicide note discovered in his pocket and shared on Facebook, the deceased expressed profound emotional distress. He described his birth as “the saddest part of my life” and death as “the most beautiful.” The note revealed he had struggled with loneliness after losing his father in 2003, followed by his mother’s remarriage and the death of the grandmother who raised him.
“No one should be held responsible for this,” the note read, emphasising that he had deliberately chosen this path after years of personal turmoil. Police recovered the helium setup and are investigating further.
The tragedy has sparked conversations around mental health awareness and the need for community support for young professionals dealing with silent struggles.
